Pineapples

So today I got up and headed to the North Shore. It is where most of the pro sufing takes place. The buses here take you all over the island anywhere you want to go for $2.

My first stop was the Dole Plantation. It is located in the middle of the island in the valley between the 2 volcanic mountain ranges on Oahu. The plantation offers; the world’s largest maze, pineapple express train tour and a plantation garden tour. I did none of them ($10 to see a field was not in my budget). I walked around the visitor’s center and took some pictures.

I felt adventurous so I crossed the street and walked down a dirt road and took a few pictures. Then was asked to leave.

Road Kill

When I got back on the bus we drove in the middle of feilds and fields of pineapples.

The Hawaiian Islands are/were an evolutionist dream come true. This islands were created by volcanic eruptions over thousands of years. In the middle of the ocean they were untouched by man, allowing evolution to take place un interrupted, similar to the Galapagos Islands.

Snails:
One kind of snail evolved through evolution into thousands of different kinds. Every valley on the volcanic mountain range has it’s own species of snail. It is amazing to think that for thousands of years there were no mammals on these islands allowing the snails to evolve to fit the climate of the valleys they were in. Most of the snails have gone extinct because when the explorers came they brought with them rats.
(when i find a snail i will post a picture)
